New York, New York

This iconic building, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, was renovated and expanded in multiple stages by architect Gwathmey Siegel. The focus of consulting services provided by HMBA was the original auditorium renamed the Peter B. Lewis Theater and the Sackler Center for Arts Education. HMBA recommended complete reworking of the stage and backstage support spaces that resulted in the demolition of the original concrete side walls of the stage area to create wing spaces, dressing room and a green room. All new 35mm film, digital video projection systems, theatrical lighting and sound systems were designed for the space.

In 2004, the Sackler Center for Education was carved out of offices areas at the lower level. The new spaces created included three education classrooms and a film/digital video screening room. The education center classrooms featured video conference capabilities for collaborative art projects with other Guggenheim education locations in Bilbao, Mexico City and elsewhere.
