Todd W. Berling is a Principal Consultant and Partner at Harvey Marshall Berling Associates. With over 30 years of experience in theater, AV and acoustics design, Todd has worked on projects for performing arts centers, educational spaces, museums, libraries, houses of worship spaces and casino showrooms across the United States, China, Thailand, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands. He is in- volved in all aspects of the project from programming through construction administration. Todd’s work at HMB has also taken him into a variety of other Markets including hospitality, retail, corporate offices and healthcare facilities.
Prior to establishing HMB, Todd was founder and principal consultant for Todd Berling Design, Inc. In its 4 years, TBD, Inc. was involved in the design of over 25 educational performance facilities, 15 regional arts facilities and 5 commercial/retail spaces. Projects included a $10 million “Stagehouse” expansion for the 8,000 seat Starlight Theater outdoor amphitheater in Kansas City, the adaptive reuse of a depart- ment store in Greensboro, NC into 350 seat arena theater, Triad Stage Company, numerous NYC and NY State primary and secondary schools, as well as the restoration on the Winter Garden atrium in the World Trade Center which was damaged as a result of the 9/11 attacks.
As Senior Designer/Project Manager for the NYC-based Pook, Diemont & Ohl, Todd designed and over- saw installation of state-of-the-art theater technical systems including motorized/counterweight rigging systems, fire curtain systems, orchestra pit lifts, high-speed stage lifts, scenery lifts, performance light- ing systems and Integrated AV Systems. Notable projects included The Geary Theater (San Francisco), the New Victory Theater (NYC), The Reagan Auditorium-Federal (DC), Teatro Alfa Real (San Paolo), the Eldorado Hotel & Casino (Reno), Sony Plaza (NYC), Crystal Palace Theater (Dalian, China), Phuket Fan- taSea (Phuket, Thailand) among many others. As Senior Designer, Todd was involved in every aspect of theater systems integration including system design and engineering, field coordination with base build- ing systems, client relations and installation supervision.
Before PDO, Todd was an Associate Consultant for NYC Theater and Acoustical Consulting Firm, Peter George Associates. Todd’s work at PGA focused on theater planning and technical systems design .
